Living Room: A Fiber within the Family Narratives

2025

______|不存在劇場

______|Absence Space

The living room is the first place we pass through—
when we leave home, and when we return.
It’s where both family and guests are allowed to stay.
Even when I was far from it,
it remained the clearest place I could picture in my mind.

The gallery at Absence Space, with its layout,
Ressembles a living room—despite not being one.
When I push open the sunset-colored door,
it feels like a place where stories can be told—
(Perhaps not just stories from my own family.)

Here, I’ve opened a few of those stories.
And I’ve brought the white car back to Tainan.
Though now, it has taken on another form.

----------

This performance, part of the “Living Room” series, features two close friends—both carrying unique family stories.

One of them, who also performs in "Something to Remember You By", has a life shaped by frequent relocations. Paradoxically, it is the constant movement itself that eventually became her source of security.

The other recalls a moment during a trip, when she came to believe that her late father had returned—this time, in the form of a bird quietly keeping her company. That moment led her back to a memory from childhood: a bird she had never seen before had once flown into their home. Her father told her gently not to scare it away. She was still young then and didn’t think much of it. The bird flew off, and she never saw it again—or at least, not with her eyes.

The performance interweaves these two stories and traces a new emotional thread that resonates with the artworks in the exhibition—forming another axis of narrative.

We invite you to come and open this chapter with us.
