來到龍口市場以前，我曾在去年近冬季，推開南海藝廊的紅色大門，桌椅及痕跡在場域各處，夾帶濕氣，往內推開更裡面一層的門，椅子傾斜於倉庫醒目的位置，由它展開一場捉迷藏遊戲，找到櫃子深處縮小版本的藝廊，進而相遇了南海藝工作室。
我後來覺得那扇裡面的門並不只通往一個地方，所以此刻才來到了龍口市場。
仍向著鄰近的路徑往返，不同的是龍口市場是地方以及人們都在同我說話，原先看著描述萬新鐵路和水溝的文字，看著眼前的柏油路面還難以想像，但在市場攤販以手比劃著其曾在的位置和比例，以及長輩於故事工作坊講述曾經橋兩邊是不同的普渡日、數著百個火車鐵軌就走到螢橋國小，便覺得地方曾是的與現今的模樣疊層。我並未真正見過，卻仍顯影於心像。
市場因其地理位置和雨棚而有的劇場感，在隨著走訪和與社區裡小朋友一起向攤主問問題，若攤主為角色，他們都展開自身的故事，而我從一個經過的、逛市場的人，知道了一些內面，這些面成為了一些圖畫。
闖關的沿途有十三位龍口攤主以及三個在地長輩故事的小圖畫，歡迎來市場走走，並在交換日記的攤位書寫及裝訂與此地的記憶。

Before arriving at Longkou Market, I once pushed open the red door of Nanhai Gallery in late autumn last year. The tables, chairs, and traces of presence lingered throughout the space, carrying the weight of humidity. Pushing open yet another door deeper inside, I saw a chair, tilted at a conspicuous spot in the warehouse. It was as if it had invited me into a game of hide-and-seek, leading me to a miniature version of the gallery tucked away in the depths of a cabinet—an encounter that led me to the Nanhai Art Studio.
Looking back, I feel that the door within that space did not lead to just one place. And perhaps that is why, at this moment, I have arrived at Longkou Market.
Still tracing the familiar paths, yet now, both the place and its people speak to me. At first, I read descriptions of the Wanxin Railway and the old drainage canals, unable to reconcile them with the asphalt roads before me. But as market vendors gestured with their hands, illustrating where those landmarks once stood, and elders in storytelling workshops recounted how the bridge once divided different Ghost Festival traditions or how counting a hundred train tracks would lead to Yingqiao Elementary School, I began to see the past and present layering over one another. Though I had never witnessed these scenes myself, they took form in my mind’s eye.
The market, with its weather shed and location, carried a theatrical quality. As I wandered, asking vendors questions alongside local children, each stall owner became a character, unfolding their own stories. I entered as just a passerby, an observer, but with time, I came to understand more of the layers beneath. These impressions became images, and those images became illustrations.
Along the way, thirteen Longkou vendors and three local elders’ stories have been woven into small illustrations. You are welcome to visit the market, stop by the Exchange Diary stall, and contribute your own writing to the bound memories of this place.
